Alex Marconi, Owner - Midwest Stars

Alex Marconi is the owner of the Midwest Stars. His professional baseball career started when he was picked out of college in the 2000 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays, where he was able to play up to Triple-A and was invited to Major League Spring Training. In 2005, he started his 13 year run as a Division I baseball coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Then he moved on to Ball State Universty, first as an assistant before being promoted to head coach, and then finally ending the colligiate coaching career at his alma mater, Kent State University from 2013-2017. In 2016, the first Midwest Stars team was born to provide players with exceptional knowledge and passionate coaches to create an environment that encourages them to develop foundational skills for both baseball and life beyond the sport. Now, we strive to uphold those ideals while we continue to grow our Midwest Stars Family!

John Matthews, Director of Operations / Player Developm...

John played Division I baseball at Kent State University before getting picked in the 8th round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers. It was also this year that he joined the Midwest Stars coaching staff. While with the Rangers, he played up to Double-A before getting traded in the 2023 Rule-5 Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks playing most of the 2024 season in Double-A. Now, after his career as a player ended, he is focused on coaching all kinds of future Stars. John serves as our Director of Operations and Director of Player Development. He is also currently the head instructor of the The Bullpen: Elite Velo Program and offering private lessons, utilitzing drills and techniques established through a lifetime of committment to the game.
